Spinal CSF Leak (also known as Spontaneous intracranial hypotension or SIH) is a condition caused by a spontaneous leak of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid that cushions the brain and spinal cord. Most leaks occur along the spine. The most common symptom is a headache that worsens when sitting or standing and improves after lying down
Spinal CSF Leak (also known as Spontaneous intracranial hypotension or SIH) is a condition caused by a spontaneous leak of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid that cushions the brain and spinal cord. Most leaks occur along the spine. The most common symptom is a headache that worsens when sitting or standing and improves after lying down, although this pattern is not present in everyone.
Other symptoms may include neck pain, nausea, dizziness, ringing in the ears, hearing changes, blurred or double vision, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, balance difficulties, and fatigue.
SIH is often misdiagnosed, but effective treatments are available, and many people recover with appropriate care.
